Skills Trainer – Children and Family IIBHT
Program: Children and Family Services, Intensive In-Home Behavioral Health Treatment
Reports to: Clinical Supervisor or Clinical Services Manager
Location: The Dalles, OR (serving Hood River, Wasco, Sherman Counties; daily community-based travel)
Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (37.5 hrs)
Tuesday to Friday: three 9-hour days, one 10-hour day (1-hour lunch)
Status: Non-exempt
Pay Range: 28.10 to 34.15 per hour
On-call: Rotating shifts to support 24-hour crisis services

About the Role

The Skills Trainer supports children and families in the IIBHT program through community-based services, including crisis support. You will assess needs, build skills, coordinate resources, and collaborate with community partners and internal teams. This position requires a strong understanding of trauma and its impact on health, relationships, and daily life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess needs and strengths of children and families.

  • Teach and practice skills such as emotional regulation, communication, problem-solving, conflict management, daily living, and self-advocacy.

  • Help families navigate systems, coordinate care, and activate natural supports.

  • Provide crisis support in partnership with Mental Health Specialists, including phone and in-person response, safety planning, and de-escalation.

  • Deliver services in homes, virtually, and in community settings based on client preference.

  • Coordinate resources including financial assistance, transportation, educational and treatment services.

  • Track and monitor progress, provide regular feedback to families, and adjust services as needed.

  • Maintain timely, accurate documentation in the agency’s clinical software.

  • Attend meetings, participate in care planning, support continuity of care, and comply with applicable rules and statutes.

  • Drive agency vehicles for community visits, client transportation, and meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA) certification through MHACBO, or ability to register as QMHA-R within 14 days of hire.

  • Three years of experience with children and families in mental health, behavioral health, or special education.

  • Experience working with families and children with severe emotional disturbances and/or early childhood education.

  • Ability to work rotating on-call shifts for 24-hour crisis coverage.

  • Bilingual Spanish and English preferred.

  • Ability to pass required criminal history checks.

  • Valid Oregon or Washington driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and insurability for work travel.

About MCCFL

Mid-Columbia Center for Living is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic providing trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, whole-person care for adults and children. Services include mobile crisis, intensive case management, counseling, community support, supported employment, jail diversion, and more in Hood River, Wasco, and Sherman Counties.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive hourly wage, depending on experience.
